College is an exciting time bringing anticipation and expectation, along with new experiences and new surroundings. However, it is also a time when the threat of assault is more prevalent. With this newfound independence also comes a greater responsibility and an imperative need to know how to protect oneself. Learning self defense is extremely important during this stage of life, and is something all current or incoming college students should have an understanding of and background in.
While preparing for college, more and more students have recently shown interest in attending self defense courses in martial arts such as karate, taekwondo, and jiu jitsu (as a matter of fact, universities like Rutgers, Princeton, Columbia and NYU all have Martial arts clubs.
The martial arts provide many real world utilizations, and teach lessons that are necessary to the development of character and confidence. But in addition to this, martial arts classes are extremely effective in educating students on how to defend themselves in real world circumstances. Training in the martial arts provides three key facets of self defense.

My Experience with Intermittent Fasting and the Ketogenics Diet
Posted: February 06, 2018
A student of mine recently asked me if I knew what Intermittent Fasting was and I said, "Of course I do I've been doing it for over 5 years now". It combines healthy eating and fasting everyday instead of doing one long fast a couple times a year. I find that the IF method helps build discipline in my daily routine, I do not get bloated and I sleep a lot better. Doing spinning kicks and teaching 5 classes a day, I need to feel at my best. When my head hits that pillow I'm out for the count within minutes. I feel completely AWESOME when I wake up, I'm currently on a 20/4 IF Routine plus or minus and hour on some days. I suggest starting at 16/8 then working up to 20/4. Men and Women do not have the same results.
Last Summer while on a relaxed Intermittent Fasting schedule 16/8, I jumped on the Ketogenics Diet to see what is was all about. I loved the fact that you can eat BACON, BACON, BACON. Did I mention BACON. On the Ketogenics Diet NO CARBS, Only FAT and Protein. I honesty enjoyed eating avocado, butter, bacon, and other fatty foods but the problem I ran into was preparation. Once the kids went back to school and running around with my 3 kids, the dojo and their activities I had no time to prep. I do miss the BACON however I tightened up a couple notches on the belt and jumped back on a tight IF schedule then the holidays came and I slacked off a little but we are all human so dont get upset, just get back on the ball and refocus. After the Holidays I jumped a quick fast for 72 hours and then back to a 20/4 IF schedule. We are all human just do your best and if you cheat once in a while its okay just get back on track.
