Martial Arts Trains Kids to Become Leaders
Posted: August 29, 2017
Leadership is the ability to influence and guide peers, friends, colleagues and members of our community - Leadership is one of the key ingredients to LIFE. I have 3 kids Cole, Olivia and Ella and a nephew named Aidan and two nieces Mikayla and Sophia who all train and practice Tae Kwon Do 2 to 4 times a week. I look at them and I say to myself, here is the next generation of Park children that will grow and one day lead the world. That can't be true enough, all our kids are the FUTURE and everything they learn at school each and everyday will determine the type of men and women that they will become. Let's all make sure we give our children the right tools and skills to gain the knowledge to bring us into a newer brighter and more AWESOME future!
When our children go to school they learn language arts, mathematics, history and other important knowledge that has been handed down from generation to generation but there is also things that need to be taught and learned that school does not provide in the academic classroom. Leadership is a characteristic we want all our children to have, Making decisions and standing up for yourself and what you believe in is always the right decision. Leadership is one of the foundation blocks in martial arts training.
Martial Arts has a variety of benefits, one of the most important is developing and teaching kids and students in becoming great LEADERS! Here are 4 ways Tae Kwon Do develops Leadership.
1. Tae Kwon Do Empowers Kids to Educate and Help Others
When your child starts a martial arts program they will learn the fundamentals of Tae Kwon Do along with other techniques that will help them become a better martial artist. Over the course of time they will practice these techniques hundreds if not thousands of times becoming better and more efficient with every practice.
One of the great things that separate a Tae Kwon Do class from other sports is that as your child become proficient and confident in the techniques thy will have the opportunity to teach and help their peers and demonstrate forms, blocks, striking and self defense techniques to newer and younger students. The more they hone their martial arts skills, the more chances they have of being put in situations where they will really develop and hone their leadership skills.
Being able to help and educate others goes far beyond martial arts training, this skill will go far beyond the dojo training floor. Leadership On and more importantly Off the Mat!
2. All Leaders Start and End with CONFIDENCE
One of the many great benefits of martial arts training is that children develop a solid sense of confidence within themselves. Martial arts and its techniques requires a certain degree of patience and attention to detail. The many moves in various disciplines take years to master. However, once students are able to learn the techniques, there is a sense of accomplishment.
This sense of accomplishment empowers children with self-esteem and confidence. These two traits are necessary to become good leaders.
When students are confident in themselves, they are better suited to help others in leading by example, or by actually helping one another. There are a lot of instances in the gym wherein students are allowed to work together to achieve common goals.
One of the fundamental teachings of martial arts is to always respect and honor our elders and superiors. This provides a natural environment where leaders can be cultivated.
3. Tae Kwon Do Develops Life Skills Success
Perhaps the most important lesson Tae Kwon Do teaches us is the value of perseverance and discipline. In business, in life, and in any matter, things will not always go as we had planned. Along our journey, we will encounter trials and tribulations, difficult times that will require great willpower and determination on our end to overcome.
Because Tae Kwon Do will push the limits of the human mind, body, and spirit, a person can discover a great deal about himself during training. One discovery is, of course, that anything is possible with a healthy amount of perseverance and discipline.
Never giving up is an important life lesson that we can learn during martial arts training. Accompanied by this iron will is tremendous discipline. In martial arts, we learn how to set ourselves up for success by adhering to awesome life principles.
Tae Kwon Do training is first and foremost something you do to better yourself whether its to be more confident, stronger or to be an Olympic athlete but a lot of our drills are set with partners which help with social and interaction skills. During stretching drills or light sparring students find themselves interacting with one another and having a great time. Its is often said that life long friends are made on the mat while training.
Tae Kwon Do allows kids to play outdoors without really playing outdoors, it also helps them to focus on themselves while forgetting about their Xbox 1, Smartphones and other technological gadgets that act as distractions. Martial Arts is a perfect way to get your kids to disconnect from technology and reconnect with family, friends and more importantly themselves.
Martial Arts is so much more than just kicking and punching or just another activity. It's a physical, spiritual and mental journey that will keep you grounded and focused and positively change every aspect of your life and everyone around you for the better! At Master Parks, we are on a journey to make every awesome child and human being just a little bit more AWESOME!!!
